Welcome to the Fresno FiberArts Guild, Inc
The Fresno FiberArts Guild was established in 1972 to bring likeminded fiber artists together to share their talents, support each other and preserve traditional needle arts. Over the years, we have expanded our vision. We are sewers, tailors, milliners, weavers, knitters, quilters, embroiderers, paper artists, dyers, jewelry makers, and artists who work with fibers of any type. With a current membership of about 100, we are dedicated to the promotion and education of fiber art forms and techniques.
Benefits of Membership:
(Cross streets, Fresno and Barstow) or TBA
General meetings: Usually held the third Saturday of the month, September through April except December. The May meeting is dedicated to signing up for next year’s classes and membership renewal.
Meeting times: 9:00
Workshops: In addition to the lecture presentation, the featured artist offers a hands on workshop to those who have signed up and paid the workshop fee.
Workshop times: After the Saturday meeting from 12:30-3:30pm and, if available, Sunday from 9:00am-3:30pm.
Workshop Sign ups: At the end of each program year, FFG holds a sign up event. Members can preview an exhibit of the next year’s scheduled classes. Members choose classes and pay a $10.00 deposit for each class to hold a place. A list of the members enrolled in the classes or on a waiting list is published in the August Newsletter. The class roster for each workshop is also published in the monthly newsletter along with a supply list for the class. If there are still spaces open after the member sign up, members may still sign up until the class is full. Full payment for the workshops is due at the Guild meeting the month before the workshop. If openings are available, non-members may sign-up for workshops by paying the workshop fee plus an additional non-member fee of $10 per workshop.
Fashion Show: The major FFG fundraiser is a Fashion Show, Luncheon, Exhibition, Raffle and Silent Auction. The event showcases the work of FFG members and is open to the public.
Scholarships: FFG offers a Legacy Scholarship of $1000 to a student interested in fiber related arts. When available, FFG also offers Grants of $100 for members, individuals or groups interested in fiber related arts. Applications for both can be found on the FFG website and are due in April.
Interest Groups: FFG offers a variety of interest groups. Joining one of these is a great way to get to know other members and enhance one’s fiber skills at the same time.
Community Outreach Programs: The Guild’s major community outreach program is Dress-A-Girl Around the World. a campaign under Hope for Women International. Established in 2006, the purpose of this non-profit organization is to bring dignity to women around the world. They strive for a world in which every girl has at least one new dress, boosting the girl’s self-esteem and sense of self-worth. Dress kits are assembled and sewn by Guild members, then sent to underprivileged girls in third-world countries. The Fresno Chapter of Dress-A-Girl has contributed around 3,500 handmade dresses to girls around the world. To participate in this worthy cause or for more information contact, [email protected]
Volunteer Opportunities: - The Guild has several members assisting with the Dress A Girl Program. In addition, there are many opportunities to serve on the FFG Board or as a Committee Lead. Participating in FFG activities is a great way to get to know other members with similar interests. See the attached FFG organizational matrix for the variety of volunteer opportunities available.
