Fresno FiberArts Guild Outreach Programs
Holy Cross Center for Women
Holy Cross Center for Women is located across from Poverello House on F Street in downtown Fresno. The Center provides a day shelter where lower income and homeless women come for a respite and to take advantage of available programs and services.
One of the services is a sewing room with 10 sewing machines and a large storage area for fabric, notions as well as supplies for knitting and crocheting projects and other fiber oriented projects.
FFG supports the sewing center financially through its budget as well as a team of Guild members who offer varied skills and abilities as they work to address the interests and needs of the women. In addition, Guild members donate supplies that the women are given and use in their individual projects.
We have developed relationships with many of the women and we have learned from them as they have learned from us. We welcome Guild members who want to participate with us in this meaningful work.
Please continue to support this project through your donations of fabric, yarn, and miscellaneous notions. In addition, personal hygiene items are always welcome. These items can be brought to a Guild meeting.

The sewing room at Holy Cross Center for Women is a community outreach project supported by Fresno Fiber Arts Guild.
For 16 years FFG has participated in the services at HCCW through
* Member volunteers
• help the clients choose fabric, yarn, patterns, and trims for their projects,
• teach clients what we know: the basics of sewing machines OR patterns OR knitting OR crocheting OR
hand sewing OR encouragement and guidance.
We come with a variety of skill levels, but most importantly we come with a willing heart, and that is the most important service we provide.
Security
• Parking is secure and safe inside the fenced compound.
• We have radio contact with security.
• Staff is supportive and responsive.
Staffing the sewing room at Holy Cross is a rewarding experience at any time, but with more volunteers it’s more fun! At the present time, three FFG volunteers are there only from 9 a.m. to noon Monday (Cleo B.) and Tuesday (Madelyn A. and Jody D.). Experienced volunteers staff two other days, but we recently lost both a Friday person and our knitting/crocheting teacher. New volunteers are needed and would train along side us until they (you!) are comfortable. We are welcome to add after- noon hours if that suits our volunteers.
