Boro Sampler Book and Boro Bag In this workshop students will use one piece of cloth as a sampler incorporating stitching, patching and mending techniques that are specific to Boro and then use that cloth to create a traditional Japanese style bag. The finished product will be a bag with Boro stitching that will serve as inspiration for future projects, and is a bag that can be used as a project bag, shopping bag, or a wrapping for a very special gift. This workshop is appropriate for beginners wanting to learn stitching or experienced artists and makers wanting to incorporate a new aesthetic into their work. Mixed Media Prayer Flags Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, strength, well-being and wisdom, and when blown by the wind, spread good will and compassion. Make unique prayer flags by painting colorful fabrics with acrylic inks, then print each one with thermofax screens, stamps and incorporate words and images using Judy’s printed abaca tissue papers. Zentangle: Dancing with Petals, Leaves, Repetitive Patterning Sharla's Zentangle Journey has had many ah-ha moments as she learned the magical shapes and forms that dance, sway, bend & bow into petals and leaves. Find your own style of Dancing with Petals & Leaves as you move across nature’s stage of organic & botanical forms using creative one-stroke-at-a-time exercises. You will take familiar tangles and many new ones that evolve into botanical and organic forms that are unique to you while learning the dance movements, steps and foundation for creating fantasy scapes. You will work with multiple types of color paper, black and tan Zentangle tiles, mixed media backgrounds, and be encouraged to experiment on larger sized Zentangle Inspired Art projects. Shibori Dyeing Techniques In this workshop, we will learn and combine shibori resist dye techniques on various types of silks. Both new and returning shibori practitioners are welcome. Stitching, wrapping, clamping and binding will be covered. Participants will complete a collection of fabrics as well as a scarf. Many samples and books will be on hand for your viewing. Ricky Tims' Harmonic Convergence -Divide & Conquer Mr. John Egbert has a passion for sharing his love of quilting. A quilt-making instructor in the Central Valley since 2012, his focus is teaching the foundation basics to the more advanced precision piecing techniques. When Mr. Egbert is not working on his many quilting projects, he serves as a full-time licensed vocational nurse. An LVN for 35 years, he has spent the last 20 years at San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation Hospital. Mr. Egbert has taught many different quilt patterns, but has been drawn to the “Jaybird” geometric styles of Julie Herman, as well as Ricky Tim’s “Harmonic Convergence” artistic form. “Quilting is definitely my therapy.” – John Egbert Class Fee $50 (Kit Fee $20 and up) April 21-22, 2018 - Anne Davies
